CIPP NOW for 2008! See the USA Rugby web site for details...and be prepared to fill in some forms... |
Another Summer Tourney in the Books! Well, another summer tournament is in the books. We brought in 15 or so teams, a ton of cash on the refreshment booth (thanks a lot for putting up with that all day, Deb!), and everything went more or less according to plan. No one got arrested and we didn't have to break out the body bags, so, basically, it was another success...
Whatever it is...the man's got it. Thanks a lot to all the Barbs that helped make July 12, 2008 a huge success for the club. We'll see you all at practice, and probably more than a few of you at Saranac! Excelsior! Barbarians Reunion Barbecue! 'Twas another great time and 'twas another sampling of Carlin's legendary barbecue chicken. Hopefully the leftovers kept many a rugger happy for at least a couple days... DUES! Dues are, again, $65.00 per man for the full 2008 calendar year. For that you're a Barbarian for 2008, and get a free pass to all Fall 2008 festivities. However, any tournaments attended by the team or team members during the spring and summer of 2008 are not covered, and entry fees and any other costs are covered by the individuals attending the tournament. Basically, your dues covers the Barbarians summer tournament and the Fall 2008 season. Full time students that attend college out of the area but are home for the summer can pay $25.00 and practice and play with the team while they are in town. As usual, any Old Barbs that have retired from the game (and that don't owe the team money!) can catch a match with the Barbs in the Summer Tournament gratis. Team Sweatshirts Hooded Champion. 80% Cotton 10oz. Ribbed side panels. Gray. Muff pocket in front. To keep your muff in. Very heavy weight. Barbarians Rugby will be displayed across the back (14 inches width) in large black letters with red outline. Front chest will display Binghamton Barbarians Est. 1973 with the Grog logo on it. For your reference, Joe Longo is getting an XL and says it will be loose. The sweatshirts run a little large and have longer than average sleeves. Devennie is getting an XL as well. Tarvin is getting a XXL. FYI. As soon as 10 people pay, the order goes in. If you haven't committed by then, you'll have to wait till the next order. Maybe in the fall. Contact Joe Longo for info and to place an order. Team Shorts Kooga brand. These are the shorts Devennie and O'Brien have. They're light and tough (the shorts are, too). The shorts will be black and have the Grog logo embroidered on the left front leg in white. Sizes are S/M/L/XL. Cost is $36.00 As soon as 6 people pay up the first order will go in. Contact Joe Longo for info and to place an order. Southern Tier Huns Youth Rugby The Southern Tier Huns Youth Rugby Team, coached by our own Sonny Randall and Mike Ramsden, finished its 2008 season on a dominating high, conquering Syracuse 56-22 in their own backyard. Way to go Huns! Read the Press article HERE. The Huns finished 3-2 in 2008, rebounding from a painful 0-40 ass-kicking against what seems a pretty invincible Fairport team to go 3-1 the rest of the way, including a sweep of the Syracuse team (by a combined 78-32 score!) and edging the Rochester City School District's School Without Walls 37-34. A forfeit to McQuaid at the midway point was the only other blemish on the Huns' record. The Huns finished the season in 3rd place in the New York State Under-19 Eastern Division I Youth Boys League, and 6th place overall between Eastern and Western divisions, behind a hard-rucking, ball controlling style of play. Check out the standings HERE. Currently there are 24 youth boys teams playing rugby in Upstate New York, from no formal conference in 2004 to 11 teams in 2005, to 17 teams in 2006, to 19 teams in 2007. That's pretty remarkable growth, and it shows that there's interest in rugby in this region. Congratulations to Sonny, Mike, and the Huns on a successful season and good luck pressing forward in 2009! Barbarian Old Boys Local Heroes! Old-time Barbarians Brian Grace and John Shine proved their mettle once again, this time in their status as Binghamton Fire Fighters. Good job, guys! Check out the official story! |
