Well, another summer, another Binghamton Barbarians Summer Roadkill Sevens Rugby Tournament. Once again, the weather was great, albeit a tad warm, and the event kicked off on schedule, with all teams present and accounted for.
The games went more or less smoothly and without controversy. The try zones saw a lot of action throughout the day.
Not that there wasn't plenty of action between the goal lines...
We crowned another new champion: the Western New York Selects, who defeated everyone in their path to claim the Cup.
On the women's side, the Ithaca Avengers (I wonder if their team battle cry was "Avengers Assemble!") took home the gold. Congratulations to both sides on overcoming all opponents en route to the championship and triumphing in the end. There was a lot of action and a lot of scoring on the day...
The Binghamton Barbarians thank all participants in the 21st Binghamton Summer Roadkill Sevens Rugby Tournament and wish them well in their 2010 fall campaigns...and we hope everyone thought enough of the tournament this year to return in 2011!
Take care!
And thanks a lot to all the Barbs that helped make July 17, 2010 a huge success for the club.
The host Barbarians entered two sides in the tournament, with the Flames team being its premiere offering. The Flames had a good pool round, but when the squad faced Western NY Selects in the playoff round...oy...
The Barbarians' second side saw action in the team's camouflage-patterned uniforms, and though the squad did not win a game, it was competitive (well, except against those Western NY guys...) and played some good, spirited rugby.
Congratulations to both Barbarians sides and to the whole team for a great tournament and a good showing. And thanks to all the help from wives, girlfriends, better halves, families...everyone who worked hard to make this another fantastic day. Thanks!
